Professor Gaston has published articles in the American Journal of Nursing, Computers in Nursing, Journal of Nursing Education, Journal of Nursing Continuing Education, Journal of Psychiatric Nursing and Mental Health Services, Home Health Care, and Nursing Connections. She has served as an accreditation site visitor for the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the National League for Nursing. Currently, she is active in the Oklahoma Health Care Workforce Center, Education and Training Committee, co-chairing the Simulation Subcommittee.

Her International Nursing Informatics course provides nursing students the opportunity for short-term study abroad to analyze computerization in nursing and health care in two countries. Previous classes visited London, Edinburgh and Paris. Her development of this course won the Dean’s Teaching Innovation Award.
