Willis named Arts & Sciences associate dean

He will assume his new duties on June 1.
Dr. Kalpana Misra, Dean of the Henry Kendall College of Arts & Sciences, has announced the appointment of Dr. Bruce Dean Willis as the Associate Dean of the college.
Willis is Associate Professor of Spanish and Comparative Literature in the Department of Languages. He holds a bachelor's degree from The College of William and Mary and a master's degree and doctorate from The University of Virginia. A specialist in the literatures and cultures of Latin America, especially Mexico and Brazil, Willis teaches courses in these areas in Spanish as well as English; and he started TU's Portuguese program in 2005. He served as chair of the department from June 2007 through May 2013. Currently, Willis represents the college on TU's Internationalization Leadership Council and chairs the related Brazil Working Group. He also has served on several Tulsa Hispanic community advisory boards. An active scholar and creative writer, his latest publication is the monograph Corporeality in Early Twentieth-Century Latin American Literature: Body Articulations (Palgrave, 2013). Willis also received the Henry Kendall College Excellence in Teaching Award in 2013.
In announcing the appointment, Misra said "Dr. Willis brings unbounded enthusiasm and a wealth of experience in research, teaching, and service to this office. I look forward to a very productive partnership in leading the college to new levels of excellence and achievement."
Willis will assume his new duties on June 1.
