John Hamill

John Hamill, free-lance writer and consultant, was director of public information for Tulsa Public Schools from 1999 to 2006. Prior to that, he was editor of TulsaPeople magazine for six years. His journalism and media background includes television and newspaper reporting with KTUL-TV and the Tulsa Tribune respectively, hosting the morning classical music morning show and Saturday night jazz program on KCMA, radio talk show host on AM1430, and news director and headline anchor for “41 Live!”

Additional experience in communications includes serving as a press secretary for a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, public relations manager with The Williams Companies, and community/investor relations director with Facet Enterprises/Purolator Products. 

His writing credits include numerous industrial documentary films/videos ranging from drilling on Alaska’s North Slope to pipeline construction in Northern Peru, articles on Tulsa for various publications, and he is author of “Tulsa—The Great American City” and “A Cigar Box, The Story of Tulsa Teachers Credit Union.” In addition to serving on the board of directors of Junior Achievement of Eastern Oklahoma and the advisory board of the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame, he teaches Writing for Public Relations, and Organizations and Their Publics at the University of Tulsa.
