Screenwriting: July 7-13, 2013
Immerse yourself in the art and craft of screenwriting for an exciting week with Michael Wright, Director of The University of Tulsa's Creative Writing program. After a full week of intensive exploration of the craft, along with stimulating group activities and recreation, you will create your own short screenplay for a public reading. For high school students, from entering Freshmen to graduating Seniors

Filmmaking: July 13-20, 2013
From understanding the shot, to breaking down the script and finally production, you will have an intensive experience in creating your own film with a screening of the final results, under the guidance of filmmaker Erin McHenry on state-of-the-art production and post-production hardware and software. Workshop activity will be supplemented by evening screenings and recreation. For high school students, from entering Freshmen to graduating Seniors.

About the Faculty
Screenwriting 

 **Michael Wright is the Director of the Interdisciplinary Program in Creative Writing at The University of Tulsa where he teaches playwriting, screenwriting and courses in writing for animation, radio, podcasting, and gaming, among others. Recipient of the Milan Stitt Award for Outstanding Contribution to American Theatre from the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., he is the founder of the Fictional Characters, a writers' collective supported by grants from the Tulsa Arts & Humanities Council. He has conducted courses and workshops around the world, including Australia, Singapore, Hungary, Poland, and Sweden. Wright's books include Playwriting at Work and Play, Playwriting in Process, and Playwriting Master Class, and are considered standard texts in undergraduate and graduate programs nationally and internationally.



Filmmaking **Erin McHenry graduated with honors from the Film program at the University of Oklahoma. While in school she won a scholarship and filmmaking award from producer/director Ned Hockman for a short documentary covering the Tulsa Race Riots. She then continued her education and obtained certification as a secondary education instructor for Journalism. Erin has worked in a wide range of fields within the film medium, from being a videographer for a television pilot starring X-Games gold medalist Travis Pastrana, to doing audio for live news casts for KJRH, to editing films and projects with professional software such as Final Cut Pro. Her most recent endeavors include pioneering a production company by the name of SevenTummy making branded content and web shows, along with freelance videography and editing. She currently works as the Director of Multimedia for a manufacturing company. A student assistant from The University of Tulsa will work with the filmmaking class as well, to provide additional mentoring.

Residential Camps

Days are spent in a workshop setting, with planned evening activities arranged for both recreation and further exploration of film. Participants must stay on campus in a supervised residence hall during the camp; rooms are shared (males and females are housed on separate floors).

Each camp has a full-time, qualified student assistant staying with the students in the residence.

Costs

  • 
The fee for each camp is $750. Housing, meals, materials and recreational activities are included. For students taking both camps the fee is $1300.

Nonresidential student costs: for one camp, $593; for both camps, $987.

  • A $300 ($600 for students taking both classes) nonrefundable deposit will be required by no later than Saturday, June 15th, 2013. Early submissions are preferred. 


  • An additional $100 deposit against damages/extra cleaning costs for dorm rooms will be required at time of arrival (note: if no charges are incurred, the checks will be returned). The $100 deposit must be in a separate check.
