Cadenhead Memorial Lecture
Cadenhead Memorial Lecture
Monday, April 18, 2011
Is there any substantive evidence in the historical record that the United States has acknowledged injustice in its westering past and provided resitution? Is it important?
The Cadenhead Memorial Lecture, hosted annually by the History Department, featured Dr. Sherry Smith as the 2011 speaker. The title of her talk was "Reconciliation and Restitution in the American West."
- Thursday, April 14
- 7:00 p.m.
- Chapman Hall Lecture Hall
- A reception to honor Dr. Smith
Dr. Smith looked at how the national and state governments have attempted to redress the grievances experienced by Native Americans as a result of westward expansion. She also addressed why the process of reconciliation and restitution is important to the understanding of both Native and United States history.
The lecture was free and open to the public.
