Undergraduate Research Opportunities

History majors are encouraged to complete History 3609 “Research and Writing as a Historian” early in their career at TU. This is a course that requires sustained individual student research on an original topic using a diverse array of primary and secondary source materials.

Students may participate in the Tulsa Undergraduate Research Challenge, or TURC program. This ongoing initiative offers ambitious students an opportunity to conduct individual research under the tutelage of a faculty mentor. Interested students should contact the Arts and Sciences TURC Director, Dr. Steve Steib or talk to their academic advisor.

Research and internship opportunities also exist at the Gilcrease Museum of the Americas, and other Tulsa-area institutions such as the Philbrook Museum, the Tulsa Historical Society and the Woody Guthrie Center. The University of Tulsa is within driving distance of several presidential libraries and major university research centers as well.
