Our Faculty and Staff
The Department of Philosophy and Religion faculty offer courses covering the major thinkers, epochs, and issues in the history of philosophy, and the major thinkers, traditions, and problems of Western Christian theology. Above all we stress engagement with the most important texts of tradition and their authors, such as Plato, Aristotle, Augustine, Aquinas, Luther, Calvin, Descartes, Leibniz, Spinoza, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Hegel and Heidegger, and, of course, the Bible. Our strengths are Ancient and Medieval philosophy and theology, Bible studies, and European Philosophy from the Seventeenth century to the present. Additionally, it has course offerings in comparative religious studies and Jewish studies. Our faculty proudly boasts nationally and internationally recognized scholars in Ancient philosophy, Catholic Studies, Protestant Studies, and Modern Philosophy.
