Professor Saylor’s research interests include state building and political development; the politics of developing societies, particularly in Africa and Latin America; and qualitative methodology.

His first book, State Building in Boom Times: Commodities and Coalitions in Latin America and Africa, is forthcoming with Oxford University Press.
