Jeff Loyd, a senior at The University of Tulsa, won the Best Classical Actor award at the Irene Ryan National Acting Competition held at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Loyd, a native of St. Louis, will graduate in May with a musical theatre degree.

Loyd and his partner, Sara Neneman, a TU junior from Omaha, Neb., earned the expenses-paid trip by winning the top acting award for the Southwest Region of the American College Theatre Festival in February. Some 200 actors from a five-state region competed for the award at the University of Texas. At the Kennedy Center, Loyd competed with fifteen other regional winners from throughout the country. The Best Classical Actor award carries a cash stipend of $500.

Loyd, who has been offered an internship for the coming year at the distinguished National Shakespeare Company in Washington D.C., has appeared in twelve TU Theatre productions over the past four years while maintaining a grade point average of 3.736.
