The University of Tulsa theatre department will present “A Little Night Music” at 8 p.m. April 2 through 6 and at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, April 6 and 7, in the Chapman Theatre in Kendall Hall on the TU campus.
Ticket prices are $7 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and area students, and $2 for TU faculty, staff and students. For ticket information call the box office weekdays between noon and 5:00 pm at 631-2567. The shows runs approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes with one intermission.
Known as a classic of musical theatre and one of Stephen Sondheim’s most sophisticated musicals, “A Little Night Music” is set in Sweden in the early 1900s and tells the story of middle-aged Fredrik Egerman and his teenage bride, Anne. The couple lives in the same house with Fredrik’s son Henrik, a seminary student one year older than Anne.
Things seem to be going fine for the couple until they attend a comedy at the theatre that features an actress with whom Fredrik once had an affair. The characters eventually converge at an isolated estate for what turns out to be a weekend full of unexpected revelations. The show features Sondheim’s most popular song, “Send in the Clowns.”
