Mr. Chet Walker is a life-long Broadway performer, conceiver and co-choreographer of the Tony-award-winning FOSSE production, and world-wide ambassador of jazz dance. He will be teaching dance classes during his residency, as well as setting an original work on select dance students. His residency is made possible by a Donald J. Feagin Visiting Artist Grant and will run from January 24th - February 5, 2011.
Students are invited to come meet Mr. Walker at a Lunch Q&A at noon on Friday, January 28th, in Kendall Hall Room 112. There will be a community master-class later that Friday, at 4:00pm in the Spirit Room of Mabee Gym. The class is open to all dancers in the Tulsa community.
On Saturday, February 5th, at 7:00pm, Mr. Walker will give an informal lecture on jazz dance and relate his experiences with prominent choreographers such as Bob Fosse. Students will also demonstrate what they have learned during the residency. This informal performance will occur in Theatre 2 of Kendall Hall. It is free and open to the public.
