The Department of Educational Studies seeks to advance theory, research, and scholarship in the field of Education. This is accomplished through individual and collaborative research and writing projects, and through aiding students to think critically about education. Education is conceived broadly; faculty and students focus on questions including (but not limited to) the aims and purposes of education and the nature of learners and learning institutions and contexts. The Department’s approach is multi-disciplinary and involves scholarship in fields such as philosophy, psychology, anthropology, sociology, history, and political science. Additionally, the department is linked with the larger educational community, locally and internationally, in service of practice and policy.
