Alexandre Hogue Gallery
The multi-purpose Alexandre Hogue Gallery, housed in Phillips Hall and run by the School of Art, serves as the chief focal point for the university’s engagement with the visual arts. Used year-round for the exhibition of arts, crafts, performance art, and special events, the gallery also offers exhibitions of historical, global, and multicultural significance. It is also the site of the annual Gussman Student Art Exhibition and numerous shows by prominent artists, and can be comfortably used for poetry readings and chamber music performances.
Gallery Schedule of Events and Guest Lecturers
The gallery program is combined with the School of Art’s Visiting Artists Program, which brings to campus both established national and international and emerging artists to talk about their work, give workshops, and work with students in the studios. Visiting critics and art historians add a scholarly dimension to this program. The Alexandre Hogue Gallery is open every day except Saturday and Sunday without charge. Please check the Arts Events Calendar for upcoming exhibits and guest lecturers.
Call for Exhibitions
The Alexandre Hogue Gallery at the University of Tulsa is pleased to accept exhibition proposals from individual artists, collaborative groups and curators on an ongoing basis. Works in any media by artists at various stages in their career will be considered, but preference will be given to emerging and mid-career artists whose work presents a significant, provocative approach to making and thinking about art. Proposals will be further evaluated on artistic merit, conceptual integrity, and accordance with our mission.
The Alexandre Hogue Gallery Mission is to promote the understanding of and extend the audience for contemporary art, and to present exhibitions that inform, inspire and challenge the public - in particular, students at The University of Tulsa. The Alexandre Hogue gallery forms the physical and structural core of the School of Art; it is used daily by visitors and students. The exhibition space includes 1,700 sq. ft. of varied indoor area and two 300 sq. ft outdoor areas which include substantial, elevated concrete pads. All areas include convenient access to AC power, high-speed Ethernet and variable lighting. Logistical and practical assistance are provided.
Stipends are typically available for these exhibits. Artists are expected to present a public lecture on their work and to meet with students in a visiting artist capacity. Exhibit duration is normally four to five weeks, with 3-6 days available for installation prior to the opening.
Submissions must include:
- A description of the proposed exhibition. For group exhibitions, discuss the exhibition theme and goals, and include a list of all participating artists. For installation work, indicate clearly how the space(s) will be used.
- An artist's resume or vita, a creative work sample with description, an artist statement, an initial budget which further indicates any specific equipment or support needs, and a SASE if you wish for your materials to be returned.
- Catalogues and/or reviews of recent exhibitions may also be submitted. Work samples may be submitted as slides, on CD / DVD, or via email in .jpg (JPEG), .mov (QuickTime), .pdf, (Acrobat), or pps, (PowerPoint) formats. All digital materials must be readable on both Mac and PC. Email submissions are limited to 25 MB.
The review process is largely limited to the academic year, so please indicate any urgency in the return of your materials.
