Alumna leaves lasting legacy in honor of inner city education
The University of Tulsa School of Urban Education is pleased to accept a generous gift from the estate of alumna Sally Crow Bishop (BSED ’67).
The Crow Bishop Family Scholarship for Elementary School Teachers is an endowment that will support a TU junior or senior elementary education student who intends to work in an inner city school district.
Bishop spent 26 years teaching elementary students at inner city schools in the Houston area after earning her elementary education degree from TU and teaching two years in Tulsa. She held the mission of urban education dear to her heart and served as a lead teacher and adviser in the Teachers for Tomorrow program.
“This scholarship will provide much-needed funding for a deserving student,” said Kara Gae Neal, director of the School of Urban Education. “Ms. Bishop’s gift is a testament of her generosity and thoughtfulness and reflects her passion for improving the lives of inner city school children.”
A loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, Bishop passed away June 21, 2013.
