Visual Communication and Sign Language Checklist
Many checklists exist that document the typical language trajectory of young children learning spoken languages and parents use these tools to ensure their children’s language development is on track. Until recently, however, no standardized checklist was available for children learning a signed language. Dr. Sharon Baker along with two other professors recently published the first standardized measure of sign language acquisition: the Visual Communication and Sign Language Checklist (VCSL). It is being published and marketed by the Center for Visual Languages and Visual Learning at Gallaudet University.
