Museums, Music, Theatres, Arts and More
Tulsa, Oklahoma, with a population of 400,000, is an important center of commerce and industry, with a thriving arts community. The city’s prominent industries include energy, telecommunications and data, finance, medicine, aerospace, transportation, and education. The oil boom of the 1920s and ‘30s spawned an outstanding cultural legacy that continues today in institutions such as the Philbrook Museum, Gilcrease Museum, Tulsa Opera, and Tulsa Ballet. Tulsa’s Southern Hills Country Club features a Perry Maxwell-designed Championship Golf Course that has been the site of three U.S. Open Championships and four PGA Championships. Tulsa’s entertainment options include a world-class zoo, the Oklahoma Aquarium, a water park, bike and hiking trails, lakes, and enough shopping malls and restaurants to satisfy every taste. On July 1, 2008, TU and the city formed a historic partnership whereby the University assumed management of Gilcrease Museum.
