4th Annual TU Jazz Camp

A jazz skills camp for instrumentalists and vocalists in grades 9 through college. All levels of skill and experience welcome.

The University Of Tulsa School Of Music is pleased to announce the 4th season of the OKLAHOMA JAZZ CAMP. The week long day camp is open to all music students, (instrumental and vocal), grades nine through college, with all levels of skills and experience. The camp will begin on Sunday, July 7, and conclude with a 3:00 p.m. showcase concert on Saturday, July 13. Fee for the six day camp is $250.

Location and Facilities
The Oklahoma Jazz Camp will be held on the campus of the University of Tulsa. Classes and rehearsals will be held in the newly constructed Lorton Performance Center, home of the T.U. School of Music. You may tour our facility by viewing our slideshow.
On-Campus Housing
Campers requiring on-campus living accommodations may be housed in modern dormitories on the T.U. campus. Dormitories are located close to classrooms and dining facilities. Rates average $25 per night with meals paid for additionally by the camper.
Camp Placement Audition
An orientation meeting and placement audition for all students will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Lorton Performance Center on Sunday, July 7. Students should prepare a jazz selection, (etude, excerpt or solo transcription), and major or minor scales to demonstrate interpretation, tone and technique. Students are also urged to demonstrate improvisation skills (optional for those entering at a beginning level of experience).
Camp Fees
The fee for attending the camp is $250, which includes all materials, classes, music and a camp T-shirt. Limited scholarship assistance is available for qualifying students.
Camp Enrollment
To enroll, mail the full amount payable to the “TU Jazz Camp” with the attached camp registration form. Full payment is due on or before July 1, for the 2013 Jazz Camp.
Camp Classes & Curriculum:
Classes will start at 9:00 each morning with a lunch break from noon to 12:50 p.m. Students are responsible for furnishing their own lunches. Classes resume at 1:00 and conclude at 5:00 p.m. The educational focus of the camp will be based on a curriculum encompassing: jazz theory & ear training, jazz improvisation, jazz history, jazz performance (big band, combo, vocal), and group lessons and master classes.
Camp Instructors
Faculty for the camp includes University of Tulsa faculty and professional musicians whose careers as teachers and players are well established and widely respected throughout the nation. Specific instructors will be announced at a later date.
