101 Things to do Before You Graduate

The University of Tulsa recommends a book to students before coming to college.  It’s called 101 Things To Do Before You Graduate.  I’m sure that most people don’t bother to read it, but my friend Melissa and I are crazy enough to try it. We have made a goal to do about 20 easy things this semester.  One is to make a new voice mail message which is actually a lot harder than you may think it is. I can’t even get to my voice mail box. Another is start a do-it board which is like a bucket list of things we want to do in life and what inspires us. We cut out some stuff from magazines and put them on there to remind us of our goals.  That is what is behind us in the picture below. We also have the book in our hands if you recognize it.  Melissa and I decided that we were going to run a marathon which seems crazy to me.  We are not very far into training, but I ran six miles today so that is a start.  I am looking forward to doing some of the items in the book. Some of the ideas are not quite as exciting, but definitely important. For example, perfecting your 30-second pitch.  This is just what you say inn interviews when someone says “tell me about yourself”.  Anyway I’m pretty excited to check off some of the suggestions off the list, and I am sure it will be great to say that we did!! :D 20140126_150837 (1)

Majors and Energy Management

One of the hardest parts about going to college is figuring out what you want your major to be aka what you want to do for the rest of your life.  Some of my friends still haven’t decided.  Honestly I just think it has to be something that you like.  As they say, “Find a job you love and you will never have to work another day in your life.” I love my major, but it is very demanding. Maybe not quite as much as some of the science majors, but then again science was never my thing.  Still, there are so many cool things about being an Energy Management major, such as the fact that I get to go on field trips to rigs!  We got to wear these really dorky but fun lab coat things and hard hats.

One of the most interesting things about my major is reading The Prize- an 800+ page book that we are reading this semester.  It is probably the most interesting “textbook” I have read thus far.  I really enjoy being in Ted Jacob’s class, but it is definitely the hardest one I have had since starting here.  One great thing about my major is that there are so many different things that you can do with it. You can work in the field or in the office.  I am really excited about it. Here are some of the pictures I took the day our class went to the rig.

Hurricane Thursdays

One really exciting thing that goes on at The University of Tulsa are Hurricane Thursdays. One of my favorite events is at the drive-in movie! Last week it was the week of sequels.  They had “Star Trek Into Darkness” and “Despicable Me 2″! “Into Darkness” was amazing, and “Despicable Me” was adorable. I was a fan of both! I realized that I saw the first “Despicable Me” at a drive-in in Cape Cod and I saw the 2nd one at the drive-in here.  It’s pretty exciting.  Another really cool thing is Boxer Bash which is held in Fisher.  Basically everyone wears the coolest boxers they have and just dances all night.  There is always good food, and I have to say that the RAs are pretty cool.  They have a haunted house during Halloween, if you enjoy that sort of thing. I love bowling, but I’m not very good :(  Still, I thought it was fun to go and hang out with my friends. There is also a fun dance near the end of the semester, which is great for people who don’t have a lot of opportunities to go to dances. These events are all free, and they are a great chance to meet the super cool people that go to TU!

This is a really bad picture from the movie, but it was hard to get a good pic in the dark.
