Golden Hurricane Athletics

Rachel
Coming from an area with some of the country’s largest universities and biggests sports programs, one of the first questions my family asked me after my decision to attend Tulsa was, “So…is Tulsa any good at sports?”

For those of you who are considering attending TU or have already made the (fantastic!) decision to do so, here are some fun facts about the Tulsa athletic program.

1. The University of Tulsa is the smallest Division 1 school.

2. This season, the Women’s Basketball team received its first NCAA tournament bid, where their first game was against 1-seed Stanford. Tulsa played well and kept Stanford on their toes despite a resulting loss of 72-56.

3. Chris O’Hare brought home gold for the Golden Hurricane last spring in the NCAA Indoor Mile Run, and just this spring broke the NCAA mile record with a 3:52.98 mile time.

4. Tulsa is currently ranked at least top 25 in Men’s Cross Country, Golf, Soccer, Tennis, and Women’s Golf, and Softball.

5. Football ended their season by winning the C-USA championship over UCF.

6. Students get free admission to all sporting events!

Who doesn’t want…

Rachel
…free concert tickets to one of the top-chart artists in the U.S.?

Every spring semester, TU’s student association puts on a week full of fun and free things (awesome, right?) called Springfest. For one of the events this year, SA went above and beyond by hosting Imagine Dragons in concert on our campus…and then gave each student a free ticket!

The following pictures only give a glimpse of how fantastic the concert was…

Skiatook Lake

Rachel
The TU campus is not the only place that friendships can be formed and memories made during your time at college. The city of Tulsa and the surrounding area is rich with opportunity for investing in life-long friendships and irreplaceable memories.

For MLK Day weekend, some friends and I rented a tiny cabin by a Skiatook Lake less than half an hour from campus. We had a blast exploring the lake, putting on war paint for several intense rounds of capture the flag, creating a fire (one of my favorite parts), and making s’mores.

What an incredible sunset!

Tulsa Colors

Rachel
Flaming red. Brilliant gold. Majestic blue. These are colors I’ve have become accustom to seeing on campus not only on students’ t-shirts but also in the turning trees and Fall sky. Here is a peek at the beauty I experience daily on campus.

what a gorgeous combination!

P.S.- Trees in Texas (where I’m from) don’t do cool things like turn colors. Which is why I am so excited about the beautiful Fall weather here!!

Got Thanksgiving?

Rachel
From your career to your favorite caffeine-filled beverage, college is a time of discovery. My favorite discovery thus far has been the existence of Canadian Thanksgiving. Who wouldn’t want to celebrate Thanksgiving twice a year?

Some of my friends prepared Thanksgiving dinner to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving in the kitchen of Lottie Jane, the all-girls dorm.

mmm…lots of turkey for lots of people

Who says you can’t live well in a college dorm?

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

From Texas to Tulsa

Rachel
A year ago, I was sitting in your shoes. Actually if you want to get specific, I was sitting at home in Austin, Texas on my laptop perusing the Tulsa website and thinking, “I have never even heard of this school, but I guess it won’t hurt to apply.”

Fast forward a year and here I am, after months and endless months of uncertainty, confident that I could not have made a better choice for my college education. Over this next year I want to show you why I absolutely love Tulsa, give you a glimpse of what it is like to be a TU student, and help you envision yourself here on this gorgeous, vibrant campus.

First, a little about myself: I am a freshman at TU studying Exercise and Sports Science. I live in Lottie Jane Mabee, the all-girls (and most awesome) dorm on campus, and I am a walk-on for the Tulsa Women’s Rowing Team.*

(right to left) Me and my roommate at our first TU football game!

Stay tuned to hear about all of the once-in-a-lifetime experiences that you could be having this time next year at the University of Tulsa!

*Did you know that you could be too? More on that soon!
