We are lucky to have such a vast array of concert venues in Tulsa. From big name super stars, to new and upcoming artists, downtown Tulsa has become a hub for those who love to attend concerts. I myself am a huge country and dubstep fan. Downtown Tulsa is a quick and hassle free 5 minute drive from TU. These concerts not only draw TU students and Tulsans, but students from OU and OSU. I was lucky enough to go to a few shows last week.
Fun Fact: The BOK Center was named the the top venue in the world by the International Association of Venue Managers! This is the place where super stars perform. I’ve bought my tickets for Eric Church fifteen minutes after they went on sale! I can’t wait until December 7th! Excited is an understatement.
Pretty Lights at The Brady Theatre
Paper Diamond at Cain’s Ballroom
Inside Cain’s Ballroom – This is the best pace in the country to watch a concert! There isn’t a bad seat in the entire room. Every ticket is general admission with standing room only. It gets a little crazy to say the least.
Fun Fact: In 1978, historic Cain’s Ballroom was only one of a few venues to host the Sex Pistols in their only American Tour.
It’s Emily here. I won’t lie: this semester got off to a rough start. There really isn’t anything quite like getting strep twice in a row to zap your energy and excitement. But starting this week, I will (finally!) not be on an antibiotic. Plus, Thursday is my birthday! I LOVE birthdays. Things are really looking up.
On Wednesday, I’m going to see They Might be Giants at Cain’s. I’ve seen TMBG in concert before and they put on an energetic show packed with fan favorites. Yay!
Thursday is my birthday(!!). I wish I could get myself a kitty, but I’m going to have to continue yearning for a feline friend for a little bit longer. As soon as I move in to a pet-friendly place I am going to the shelter! I’m also going to try really hard not to buy myself every pair of shoes I want for my birthday. This is challenging. I have a (not so) secret, shameful addiction.
But seriously, can you blame me?
Saturday there will be brunch, which I think is a classy, under-21 friendly birthday celebration activity. Plus, Tulsa is brimming with awesome, reasonable brunch places. Seriously, when I lived in DC I missed the brunch here. It is that good. After brunch my boyfriend has promised to take me shooting, which is one of those when-in-Rome activities I have actually started to enjoy.
The brunch here is heaven.
Sunday is the Super Bowl, and while my beloved Steelers choked, at least I get to cheer for the hometown favorite Giants. I’m still a little sore about the Steelers loss, since I expected much better from them and just bought a Mendenhall jersey over winter break. Now I have to wait until next season to wear it again. Alas.
Monday my friend Nathan and I start training for the OKC Memorial half marathon. Running a marathon last semester was fun and all, but I’m looking forward to catching a few more z’s on Saturday morning. Nathan won my eternal devotion by naming his goldfish after enzymes (cpd photolyase and executioner caspase). On Monday I will also be going to the Polyphonic Spree concert at Cain’s(!).
I hope your week ahead is just as exciting! Here’s to getting back on track and making my last semester at TU one to remember!
What up internet peoples. Nice to know you found TU’s Admission blog (with relative ease I hope.) I’ll just introduce myself since I’m a noob in the blog business. My name is Zack and I’m a sophomore here at TU. My major has recently changed to Nursing (hecks yeah!!!) and I’m involved with quite a lot on campus. But I won’t bore you with the specifics.
Let’s see…well classes started a little over a month ago and the first round of exams hit pretty hard for everyone. Let’s face it; we all love our classes and professors until that first test. Then when you realize you should have been studying instead of watching Two and a Half Men or Glee.
I don’t want to take all your time, so I’ll wrap it up for this first entry. From time to time, I’ll update you on what’s happening on campus, and even in my collegiate life. I’ll also try to leave a vid or pics. The Grand Opening of our new Lorton Performance Center took place a couple weeks ago. So enjoy the video as I pay homage to the fine arts. Until next time…
