Sustainability, conservation, reduce/reuse/reclaim/repurpose/recycle are all buzz words and phrases that are becoming more popular in American culture. But what do they really mean? What are these ideas really talking about?
Sustainability is an umbrella concept that seeks to create a balanced existence on the earth. Sustainability means taking the long-term view of how our actions affect future generations, and making sure we don’t deplete resources or cause pollution at rates faster than the earth is able to renew them.
The University of Tulsa has a sustainability committee that works to create this balance on campus. Some current projects are:
- TU Bike Program
- The Trayless Challenge
- Single Stream Recycling
- The Green Team
For more information about any of these programs, please visit www.utulsa.edu/sustainability.
All students/staff/faculty are invited and welcome to join our sustainability committee that meets monthly. Our first meeting will be announced on our website, and on our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/TulsaUSC.
