Join a dedicated community of inspiring athletic trainers and gain unique skills in the dynamic, exciting, and challenging healthcare field.

We offer two routes to obtaining your degree – a five-year accelerated bachelor’s to master’s program and a two-year post-baccalaureate master’s program. We prepare you to expertly prevent, evaluate, diagnose, and rehabilitate injuries and illnesses.

Students in both programs will gain comprehensive experience under the direct supervision of our professional faculty and staff, all of whom are BOC and Oklahoma licensed athletic trainers. From national internships to working with highly regarded sports teams, our carefully devised programs combine academic coursework and hands-on practice to prepare you for entry-level positions in one of the fastest-growing careers in the U.S., according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

About Athletic Training

Fast facts:

  • Athletic trainers are healthcare professionals who work closely with physicians to not only administer preventative and emergency injury care for athletes and physically active individuals, but also follow through by setting up treatment regimen and rehabilitation protocols.
  • The University of Tulsa Athletic Training Professional Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education.
  • The University of Tulsa is the only athletic training program in Oklahoma to offer an accelerated five-year Bachelor’s to Master’s program.

To practice as an athletic trainer, students must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Earn a degree from a university with a CAATE-accredited athletic training program
  • Complete the supervised practice courses, which require proficiency in required skill areas
  • Earn a certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider or equivalent
  • Pass the Board of Certification (BOC) exam
  • Obtain appropriate state credentials
