Student-Athlete of the Week - Oct. 5-11

Hannah Stout (a junior volleyball athlete from Bloomington, Ill.) has maintained a 3.52 grade point average in art. Stout recorded six kills and hit .357 in a 3-0 win over Rice on Friday, and notched 14 kills and five block assists while hitting .407 in a 3-2 win against Houston on Sunday.

MEN'S SOCCER (7-3-2, 2-0-1 C-USA) Nationally ranked #20

Defeated Kentucky 1-0 (Junior Ashley McInnes scored the game's only goal in the 87th minute on assists from sophomore Blaine Gonsalves and senior Jose Parada. Senior Joe Salem led the team with three shots, including two shots on goal.

Tied South Carolina 1-1 2OT (Junior Ashley McInnes scored with only eight seconds left in regulation on assists from freshman Sidney Stewart and senior goalkeeper Andy Aguilar. Aguilar also recorded seven saves in 110 minutes in goal.

WOMEN'S SOCCER (6-6-2, 3-3 C-USA)

Lost to East Carolina 1-0 (Seniors Kayla Chambers, Jennifer Kacergis and Courtney Chadney all led the team with two shots apiece, and freshman Katie Bykowski recorded five saves.)

Defeated Marshall 4-1 (Seniors Shannon Locke, Hannah Taylor and Courtney Chadney each scored one goal apiece, and freshman Katie Bykowski recorded four saves.)

VOLLEYBALL (14-5, 4-2 C-USA)

Defeated Rice 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-17) (Senior Jennifer Eichler led the team with 19 kills and freshman Tyler Henderson added 13 of her own. Sophomore Rachel Vukson recorded 20 assists and freshman Jessica Adams notched 21 digs.

Defeated Houston 3-2 (25-22, 26-28, 25-14, 26-28, 15-9) (Freshman Tyler Henderson recorded 26 kills and hit .412 for the match. Junior Hannah Stout had 14 kills and five block assists, and sophomore Rachel Vukson recorded 37 assists.

MEN'S TENNIS

Ashley Watling Advances to Quarterfinals at D'Novo ITA All-American Championships (Sophomore Ashley Watling advanced to the quarterfinals of Main Draw singles at the D'Novo ITA All-American Championships. Watling posted a 3-1 record for the tournament picking up two wins over nationally-ranked opponents before losing to eventual champion John-Patrick Smith of Tennessee.

WOMEN'S GOLF (Nationally ranked #36)

Finished Second at Johnie Imes Invitational (The Hurricane turned in a three-round 912 total to finish second at the Johnie Imes Invitational at the par-72 Club of Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo. Freshman Kristina Merkle won the individual title with a six-over par 222 total.
