Tulsa Hurricane Week in Review - 10-19-09

Student-Athlete of the Week - Oct. 12-18

John Beattie (a senior men’s cross country athlete from Southampton, England) has maintained a 3.37 grade point average in the master’s of business administration program. Beattie finished seventh in the Blue Division 8K race with a time of 24:00.4 at the prestigious Pre-Nationals meet. The field featured 238 runners and 34 teams, including nine nationally-ranked squads.

Last Week’s Results

FOOTBALL (4-2, 2-0 C-USA)

Lost to No. 5 Boise State 28-21 (Sophomore Damaris Johnson totaled 178 all-purpose yards and caught one touchdown pass, and sophomore G.J. Kinne completed 14-of-27 passes for 154 yards and two scores. Sophomore DeAundre Brown led the team with 18 tackles and recovered one fumble.)

MEN’S SOCCER (8-3-2, 3-0-1 C-USA) Nationally ranked #12

Defeated No. 23 UAB 5-1 (Sophomore Austin Neil scored two goals and recorded one assist, and junior Ashley McInnes tallied one goal and an assist. Sophomore Blaine Gonsalves and senior Kilian Poeschk scored one goal apiece, and senior Andy Aguilar recorded three saves.)

WOMEN’S SOCCER (6-8-2, 3-5 C-USA)

Lost to UAB 2-0 (Seniors Kayla Chambers, Jennifer Kacergis and Mackenzie Ayer all led the team with two shots apiece, and freshman Katie Bykowski recorded three saves.)

Lost to Memphis 1-0 (Seniors Hannah Taylor and Jennifer Kacergis each had one shot on goal, and freshman Katie Bykowski recorded three saves.)

VOLLEYBALL (16-5, 6-2 C-USA)

Defeated Memphis 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-10) (Senior Julia Kenealy recorded eight kills and six blocks, and freshman Jessica Adams had 17 digs. Freshman Tyler Henderson tallied 11 kills and hit .409, and senior Jennifer Eichler had 10 kills and hit .375.)

Defeated UAB 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-12) (Freshman Tyler Henderson led the team with 12 kills and sophomore Rachel Vukson recorded 21 assists. Senior Jennifer Eichler had 11 kills and junior Hannah Stout added 10 kills.)

CROSS COUNTRY (Men Nationally ranked #27)

Men Finished Eighth, Women 30th at Pre-Nationals (Senior John Beattie finished seventh overall in the men’s Blue Division 8K race with a time of 24:00.4, and junior Melanie Cleland placed 53rd in the women’s Blue Division 6K race in 21:38.8. The men’s team finished eighth out of 34 teams, and the women’s team finished 30th out of 37 teams at Pre-Nationals on Saturday.)

MEN’S TENNIS

Earn a combined 13-5 record at Razorback Classic (Sophomores Rusty Turpin and Patrick Collins both went 3-0 in singles action, and freshman Alastair Barnes posted a 2-1 singles record. Rusty Turpin and sophomore James Seagraves went 2-1 in Flight 1 doubles, and Alastair Barnes and Patrick Collins earned a 2-1 record in Flight 2 doubles.)
