Website offers textbook rentals to students

Matt Picht, Staff Writer

It’s no secret that college textbooks are pricey to buy and seldom see use outside of class.

As the high cost of textbooks at the bookstore continues to put a strain on students’ already-stressed wallets, alternative ways to acquire course books are gaining popularity.

Students who chafe at paying $180 for a calculus book they need for one semester now have another option.

They can rent it for a third of the price, then send it back at the end of the semester free of charge.

Chegg.com, a website that is the self-proclamed “Number one in textbook rentals,” allows students to rent textbooks for a semester, quarter, or summer rental period.

Books are sent out to students in good condition and are rented at a discount of 65-80 percent less than the listed price.

Students’ rented textbooks will be mailed to them at the beginning of the semester.

At the end of the rental period, Chegg will provide a pre-paid shipping label for students to mail back their books.

With access to over a million titles and renting to over 1,000 campuses in the U.S., Chegg can be an excellent resource for students who don’t want to pay full price for a textbook.

In addition, using Chegg to rent textbooks helps preserve the environment.

Chegg plants 1 tree for every book rented. This service has planted 25 acres of trees to date.

For more information, visit Chegg’s website at www.chegg.com.
