Welch lectures to spark religious discussion
Kelli Kickham, Staff Writer
“Scripture, Calvin and Truth” brings together sermon, lecture and religious discussion. The three-day event will take place at the First Presbyterian Church and is hosted by both the church and the University of Tulsa.
Some of the well-known presenters include Dale Bruner, co-author of several books and retired professor of religion; Dr. Timothy George, who is the founding dean and professor of divinity at the Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, Ala.; and Dr. Peter Barnes, author and senior pastor of Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas.
Some of the topics covered will include the Sermon on the Mount, Calvin and the Reformation.
On Saturday and Sunday, all presentations will be held at the First Presbyterian Church. Monday, the event will be held partially at the church and partially at TU.
The Welch Family Foundation is presenting the series, which also features the foundation’s Special Collection of Reformed and Renewal.
The collection is a gift to the community of Tulsa and to scholars interested in religion and religious studies.
The lectures begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday with coffee and pastries. The opening lecture starts at 10 a.m.
The lecture series is free and open to the public, though preregistration is welcomed. For more information, stop by the Sharp Memorial Chapel on campus or call Mary McKee at (918)631-2546.
