Standing seven feet tall, Jerome Jordan first arrived on the University of Tulsa’s campus in fall 2006 in hopes of becoming a starter for the Golden Hurricane basketball team.

Prior to arriving at TU, Jordan had only played basketball for two years in his hometown of Kingston, Jamaica.

Jordan is now one of the senior co-captains and has not only achieved his goal of being a starter and a leader for the Golden Hurricane basketball team, but even declined going into the NBA draft in 2009.

Jordan will earn his degree in exercise and sports science and continue to improve on his basketball skills and abilities before entering the draft.

“I chose to attend Tulsa because it felt like a family atmosphere where it would not be a hard to adapt to,” Jordan said. “I enjoyed the coaching staff, and I knew I would be receiving a great education.”

Jordan has made a big impact on the basketball team, posting impressive statistics throughout his career.

He has played in 62 career games, started in 49 contests and has career averages of 7.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.6 blocks.

Jordan has set the school and C-USA single-season blocked shots record with 143 blocks, and his 160 career blocks rank him third on the school’s all-time blocked shots list.

He tied the school single-game record of eight blocked shots three times, with all three games coming in the 2007-08 season.

Although the NBA has shown interest and he has become a familiar face in the world of college basketball, Jerome has continued to stay grounded.

“My family and teammates keep me level-headed, which is a great blessing to have that supportive group around,” Jordan said.

Jordan has had invaluable support from his coaches and teammates. He came in as freshman with less experience than the majority of his teammates, but with great potential.

Now in his senior year, Jordan has grown into a highly touted player.

“The entire basketball team has influenced me throughout my basketball career here,” Jordan said. “They have all impacted my life in some way.”

Jordan has utilized his time at TU to achieve a great education and to fine-tune his basketball skills, especially his jump-shot.

“My favorite part of being a student-athlete is traveling around the country and seeing different things with my teammates,” Jordan said. “Initially, it was hard to adjust to being a student-athlete because you have to learn proper time management.”

The men’s basketball team will look to Jordan to be a leader during the 2009-10 basketball season as it attempts to rack up wins for its best year yet.

After the 2010 season, Jordan is looking forward to walking across the platform to receive his diploma and moving forward to pursue his dreams of playing in the NBA.
