RHA to sponsor campus zombie invasion
Catherine Roberts, Editor in Chief
According to lore, if a zombie apocalypse were to strike, it would hit without warning, causing panic and mayhem.
Fortunately for students of the University of Tulsa, the upcoming zombie apocalypse on campus will be no surprise and will be conducted with the full support of the university.
March 24–April 1, the Residence Hall Association will sponsor “a week-long series of events concerning the undead,” according to Vivian Ting, co-chair of the Zombie Apocalypse week.
On March 24 there will be a session with a Red Cross instructor in which students will learn to prepare for a zombie apocalypse.
The following day, the Zombie Defense Committee will meet to brainstorm the best ways for TU students to defend campus against an invasion.
March 26 will feature a LAN party in which students may come play a zombie-themed video game on a local area network. March 28 will be a zombie movie marathon, with movies still to be decided.
March 31 will be an event for zombie makeup and crafts. “Students can do various zombie crafts and learn how to apply zombie-esque makeup,” Ting said.
The finale to the week will be the Zombie Ball on April 1. “Students are encouraged to dress up like zombies and dance,” Ting said.
She added, “Ongoing throughout the week, and what we would really like to promote, will be a game of Humans vs. Zombies … a huge game of tag where zombies try to tag and ‘infect’ humans playing the game. It’s very similar to Mafia or Assassins.”
Robert Rubin is the other co-chair of Zombie Apocalypse Week. He encouraged students to get involved and check out the events.
“Zombies and the zombie apocalypse have become widely popular and culturally iconic,” he said.
There are best-selling books, video games and movies about the zombie apocalypse, so we wanted to have a week celebrating them all,”
He especially encouraged students to play the campus-wide Humans vs. Zombies game “because it has never been played at TU before.”
“We are hoping enough people get involved and enjoy it enough to make this a huge, yearly campus-wide event,” he said.
To sign up to play Humans vs. Zombies, register at http://utulsa.hvzsource.com. The deadline for registration is March 23. To get involved in working any of the other events, or for more information about times or locations, e-mail zombies@utulsa.edu.
