SENATE RESOLUTION – STEVEN J. BELLOVICH
March 15, 2012
With the passing of Dr. Steven J. Bellovich, Dean of College of Engineering and Natural Sciences at The University of Tulsa on February 21, 2012, The University of Tulsa Faculty Senate has lost a beloved colleague, a mentor, a friend and a fellow faculty senator. Dean Bellovich was a talented administrator, a dedicated and excellent teacher and a visionary. We will sorely miss his leadership, his work ethic, his generosity, his optimistic attitude, his convictions rooted in a strong value system, and above all his deep sense of caring for the faculty, staff and students. We hereby resolve the following:
Resolved:
That the faculty of The University of Tulsa holds dear the memory of Steven J. Bellovich, and
That we recognize and appreciate his tireless pursuit of excellence for The University of Tulsa as well as his strong leadership and support of the faculty, staff and students, and
We salute his service to the Faculty Senate and his contribution to The University of Tulsa's College of Engineering and Natural Sciences during his 40 years as a professor of Geosciences and his long tenure as Dean (1995-2012), Associate Dean, and Assistant Dean, during which he set the College and Department upon a proud course that we jointly and individually hold as a precious bequest, and
That we will honor Steven J. Bellovich and his memory in the coming years by continuing to devote ourselves to the same pursuit of excellence and to the ideals that he so capably served before us.

SENATE RESOLUTION – JOHN BAILEY
September 16, 2010
With the passing of John Bailey, former Director of Petroleum Abstracts, The University of Tulsa faculty lost a beloved colleague and a friend. John was a dedicated staff member, teacher, proud alumnus, and generous donor to TU. We will surely miss his friendship, outspoken opinions, generosity, and kindness. We hereby resolve the following:
Resolved:
That the faculty of The University of Tulsa holds dear the memory of John Bailey; and
That we recognize and appreciate his dedication to The University of Tulsa as well as his fellowship and support given to his former colleagues; and
We salute his contribution to the Petroleum Abstracts Division to establish the TULSA Database, which is used by companies, universities, and research organizations worldwide;
We salute his steadfast support for The University of Tulsa initiatives including the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences, McFarlin Library, the Tulsa Undergraduate Research Challenge, and the Presidential Scholars program;
We salute his more than 40 years of dedicated service to The University of Tulsa as an example of leadership that we jointly and individually hold as precious; and
That we will honor his memory by continuing to devote ourselves to the ideals that he so capably served before us.

SENATE RESOLUTION – IGOR CHUDINOVICH
August 26, 2010
With the passing of Dr. Igor Chudinovich, Professor of Mathematics at The University of Tulsa, The University of Tulsa faculty lost a valued colleague. Professor Chudinovich was an excellent researcher and teacher who held himself to the highest standards of professionalism. He understood the needs of his students and did his best to meet them. He always displayed the sense of logic and rigor that distinguishes a true mathematician. He was a man of integrity, a generous and loyal friend with a fine sense of humor, a devoted husband and a loving father. Widely read in a remarkable variety of domains, he was also an aficionado of music, especially of opera, and liked to travel the world to see at first hand its geographic and cultural wonders. Those of us who have had the privilege of knowing him as a friend and colleague will never forget him. We hereby resolve the following:

That the faculty of The University of Tulsa holds the memory of Igor Chudinovich dear;
That we recognize and appreciate his tireless pursuit of excellence in his academic career at the University of Tulsa; and
That we will honor his memory by continuing to devote ourselves to the ideals that he so capably served before us.

SENATE RESOLUTION – JAMES GRAY WATSON
April 15, 2010
With the death of Dr. James Gray Watson, the Frances W. O’Hornett Professor of Literature and former Chair of the Department of English, The University of Tulsa faculty lost a beloved colleague and friend. Given Professor Watson’s deep affection for The University of Tulsa, and given his four decades of service as a leader of the faculty, a mentor to junior colleagues, a distinguished scholar of the works of William Faulkner and Peter Mattheissen, and an outstanding teacher, we hereby resolve the following:
Resolved:
That the faculty of The University of Tulsa holds dear the memory of James Gray Watson, and
That we recognize and value his abiding commitment to liberal education, to literary interpretation and scholarly research, and to the development of our university, and
That we admire the energy, enthusiasm, and dignity he brought to the honorable profession of undergraduate and graduate teaching, and
That we deeply appreciate the fellowship, friendship, and guidance he gave to his former colleagues, and
That he exemplified the love of learning, passion for work, forthrightness in speech, and desire to do right that we cherish in our fellows and seek to foster in our students, and
That we will honor his memory through renewed devotion to the ideals that he so capably served before us.

SENATE RESOLUTION – KERMIT BROWN
January 21, 2010
With the passing of Dr. Kermit Brown, Professor Emeritus of Petroleum Engineering at The University of Tulsa and former Chairman of Petroleum Engineering, The University of Tulsa faculty lost a beloved colleague and a friend. Professor Brown was a great researcher, a dedicated and excellent teacher and a visionary. We will surely miss his friendship, his counsel, his generosity, his optimistic attitude, and his ability to make the people around him feel better. We hereby resolve the following:
Resolved:
That the faculty of The University of Tulsa holds dear the memory of Kermit Brown, and
That we recognize and appreciate his tireless pursuit of excellence for The University of Tulsa as well as his fellowship and support given to his former colleagues, and
We salute his contribution to The University of Tulsa’s Petroleum Engineering Program during his tenure as the chairman in 1967-73 and subsequently as a Professor for 16 years which has set the Department upon a proud course that we jointly and individually hold as precious, and
That we will honor his memory by continuing to devote ourselves to the ideals that he so capably served before us.

SENATE RESOLUTION – FRANK K. WALWER
January 20, 2010
With the passing of FRANK K. WALWER, Former Dean of The University of Tulsa College of Law, The University of Tulsa lost a beloved colleague and a friend. Dean Walwer was a dedicated legal educator. Prior to coming to Tulsa, Dean Walwer was a dean at the Columbia Law School. After serving as dean at Tulsa for ten years, Dean Walwer went on to become the dean at Texas Weslyan University School of Law where through his leadership, the law school received ABA accreditation. While at Columbia, Dean Walwer coauthored the definitive book on the financing of law schools. He was active in the American Bar Association’s accreditation process and was President of the Law School Admissions Council. We will surely miss his friendship, his counsel, his generosity, his optimistic attitude, and his tenaciousness. We hereby resolve the following:

SENATE RESOLUTION – PAUL LLEWELLYN BROWN
January 21, 2010
With the death of Dr. Paul Llewellyn Brown, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy, former Chair of the Department of Philosophy, and first Director of the Honors Program, The University of Tulsa faculty lost a beloved colleague and friend. Given Professor Brown’s deep affection for The University of Tulsa, his more than four decades of service as a leader of the faculty, a mentor to junior colleagues, and an outstanding teacher, and his continuing and active involvement with the University as an Emeritus Professor, we hereby resolve the following:
Resolved:
That the faculty of The University of Tulsa holds dear the memory of Paul Llewellyn Brown, and
That we recognize and appreciate his unparalleled commitment to liberal education and rational inquiry, and
That we admire the energy, enthusiasm, and good humor he brought to the honorable profession of undergraduate teaching, and
That we deeply appreciate the fellowship, friendship, and guidance he gave to his former colleagues, and
That he exemplified the love of learning, breadth of understanding, maturity of judgment, independence of thought, and decency of character that we cherish in our fellows and seek to foster in our students, and
That we will honor his memory through renewed devotion to the ideals that he so capably served before us.

SENATE RESOLUTION – BEN GRAF HENNEKE
November 19, 2009
With the passing of Dr. Ben Graf Henneke, President Emeritus of The University of Tulsa, and Trustees Professor Emeritus of Humanities, Alumnus, Scholar, Teacher and Friend, The University of Tulsa faculty lost a beloved colleague and inspirational leader. Given President Henneke’s love for The University of Tulsa, his vision for its excellence, and his service to the University over eight decades, we hereby resolve the following:
Resolved:
That the faculty of The University of Tulsa holds dear the memory of Ben Graf Henneke, and
That we recognize and appreciate his tireless pursuit of excellence for The University of Tulsa as well as his fellowship and support given to his former colleagues, and
That each time we hear the University Fight Song, which he wrote as an undergraduate student, we honor his memory, and
That his energy and initiative – as expressed in his work to invigorate the performing arts and humanities at TU, to establish the KWGS radio station, and to introduce generations of students to the excitement of field study in Italy – do exemplify the scholarly passion to which each of us is dedicated, and
That the remarkable development of The University of Tulsa’s campus, programs, and faculty during his presidency of 1958-67 set the University upon a proud course that we jointly and individually hold as a precious bequest, and
That we will honor his memory by continuing to devote ourselves to the ideals that he so capably served before us.

SENATE RESOLUTION – SHIRLEY ROBARDS
May 14, 2009
With the passing of Dr. Shirley Robards, Associate Professor of Education, The University of Tulsa faculty lost a valued colleague and talented teacher. Dr. Robards leaves a great legacy of teaching and professional service. The enthusiasm for learning she instilled in her students has been multiplied in turn by their teaching in classrooms across the country. Dr. Robards served actively on the Faculty Senate and contributed in many ways, most recently with service on the Steering Committee. Given Dr. Robard’s love for The University of Tulsa and her contributions to its excellence, we hereby resolve the following:

That the faculty of The University of Tulsa holds the memory of Shirley Robards dear; and
That we recognize and appreciate her tireless efforts in pursuit of excellence for The University of Tulsa as well as her fellowship and support given to her former colleagues.

Over the past summer, with the passing of Fulton Collins, the former Chairman of the Board of Trustees, the University of Tulsa lost a great leader and an even greater friend. Given his love for the University of Tulsa and his vision for its excellence we hereby resolve the following:

The faculty, staff and students of the University of Tulsa hold the memory of Fulton Collins dear;
That we recognize and appreciate his tireless efforts in his pursuit of excellence for the University of Tulsa; and
That we honor Fulton Collins and his memory in the coming months and years in all the work that the Faculty Senate and its Committees undertake with the same pursuit of excellence.
