Title of Student Position:       Lab Attendant (Approx. 3/4 time will be spent in lab; approx. 1/4 time will be spent in main office performing work study tasks when there is class time scheduled in the lab.)

Number of students requested to fill above position:  1

Duties of the Position:   Lab is equipped with combination of G4 and G5 Mac computers so attendant must learn minimal amount about OS 10.4 and resident software in order to provide daily supervision and assistance to students with assorted technical questions.  Attendant must keep copier supplies stocked along with good print cartridge in printer at all times; keep equipment cleaned and lab tidy.  Essential duty is to remain stationed in lab at all times during open lab hours to assist students if and when necessary and watch over equipment.  On days that classes are taught in the lab, the lab assistant will then put on a different hat and alternatively work in the office performing basic clerical work; assist faculty with computer input; file; run campus errands; do library book retrieval and other generalized office functions.  If occurring during work hours, this work study can also assist with on-campus Communication functions and/or receptions.

Skills Required to Perform the Position:   It would be helpful to have some Mac experience and proficiency with resident software, however those computer skills can also be acquired.  This department seeks a student who:     1) can offer more in the way of willingness to accept responsibility when working in an area housing expensive equipment, 2) shows up at scheduled work times,  3) arrives in a timely fashion, 4) is dedicated to his/her job performance, 5) is reliable  6) exhibits good PR skills and 7) understands that this position is an important part of the whole.

 

Recommended Student Classification Level :  Level I

Beginning and Ending Dates of the Position:     2007-2008 academic year

Hours Per Week:  Dependant upon student's award.  Office hours are Mon-Fri 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
