USAC FIDA Program

The University of Tulsa and the University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) invite professional staff who would like to spend 3-6 weeks during the summer overseas learning a new language and/or culture and who want to promote internationalization at TU to apply for a Staff International Development Award (USAC/FIDA). 

FIDA recipients attend a USAC summer program as students, studying the local language and/or taking regional classes, enhancing their understanding of different cultures with the help of a grant covering tuition and a stipend of $1500 to use toward the cost of housing, airfare, and other travelling costs. Eligible programs for summer 12: Chile, China, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, France-Session I only, Germany, Ghana, India, Italy, Mexico or Spain.
 

Eligibility:  Applicants must be TU professional full-time staff Preference is given to applicants with limited experience living abroad.  Applicants must be returning on contract to the University of Tulsa the following academic year.  Participants are expected to submit a report to the CGE upon the completion of the program.

Award Details:  There will be 1 award given. Award covers tuition for selected summer USAC program plus a stipend of $1500, intended to cover airfare and a portion, if not all, of the housing costs (additional expenses are the responsibility of the recipient).

Note:  Be sure to look at the specific sites listed in the application as not all USAC summer sites are available for the FIDA.

Spouses or dependents may accompany the FIDA recipient but may not sit in on courses or participate in field trips unless they enroll/pay as a student; however, they are eligible for the faculty spouse/dependent discounts ($300 discount for a summer session). Let CGE know if you are thinking on the option of taking your family with you.

 To Apply:

  1. Complete USAC application (coming soon).
  2. Write a statement of no more than 2 pages regarding your reasons for interest in the program site that you have selected, your current international experience, your professional goals and how this experience would impact your job at TU and promoting the  internationalization of our campus. Include the terms that your supervisor has agreed for your time away;
  3. Letter of support from your supervisor;
  4. Application documents should be submitted to CGE (CGE House, middle of sorority row) or globaleducation@utulsa.edu.

Deadlines:  December 2nd, 2011 for a summer 12 program.
