Arrival Information

After you arrive on campus, stop by the Center for Global Education (House #8 on campus map) to meet the staff. CGE office hours are Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm.  The CGE is located south of ACAC in the middle of sorority row.

Exchange Student Orientation
Upon arrival, all exchange students are required to attend the exchange student orientation.  Orientation is designed to assist visiting students with their cultural transition into life in the U.S., to provide an introduction to life on the Tulsa campus, and to give you an opportunity to meet American students.  At orientation you will receive a campus tour, assistance in setting up your TU e-mail account, overviews of student services and organizations, and an introduction to campus life and academics at TU.  The CGE will provide lunch and dinner for all participants and arrange an optional shopping trip so you can purchase items needed for settling into your dormitory room or apartment.  A more detailed calendar of exchange student orientation activities will be available at orientation.

Immigration Check-In
International exchange students must report to the Office of International Student Services (ISS, second floor of Westby Hall, #32 on campus map) after arrival in Tulsa to check in at the university as required by U.S. Immigration.

Be sure to bring with you the following:

  • Valid Passport
  • Immigration Documents (DS-2019 form & I-94 card- the white card stapled inside your passport)
  • A current photograph (if you do not bring a photo with you, the ISS office will take your photo when you check in)
  • Proof of adequate health & medical insurance

Course Enrollment
Students who have met the English Language Proficiency Requirement by successfully completing the TOEFL prior to arrival to Tulsa should complete and return to the CGE the intent to enroll form.
If you plan to enroll in classes prior to arriving on campus, upon receipt of your intent to enroll form, we will request that your college academic advisor contact you to discuss appropriate course selections.  A schedule of courses is posted to the Tulsa web page for your reference here.

If you plan to enroll in classes in person after arriving on campus, we would appreciate it if you would still return your intent to enroll form.  Contact the college academic advisor directly to set up an appointment to complete your enrollment.
Students who have not fulfilled the English Language Proficiency requirement by taking the TOEFL or IELTS may not enroll until this requirement is met.
After you officially check in at ISS, you will be able to obtain a printed copy of your class schedule if you have enrolled prior to arrival.  If you choose to wait until arrival to enroll, you will be issued an enrollment card that will be used with your advisor to select classes.

By taking a copy of your class schedule to the University Bookstore, you can determine which textbooks are required to be purchased for your courses and other items necessary.

You will also need your class schedule in order to obtain a TU student identification card (ID).  ID cards are needed to gain access to buildings on campus including your residence, computer labs, the McFarlin Library, the Collins Fitness Center and can be used as a cash card (Gold Card) on campus for purchase of food and other items, and must be carried at all times.

Please refer to the Campus Map to identity some of the buildings you will need to visit after arrival to campus.

Opening a Bank Account

Most students will open a bank account at a nearby bank in order to have a checking account or obtain an ATM (Automatic Teller Machine) card.  Upon arrival on campus we can suggest several local banks.  Some local banks will be on campus during the first few weeks of each semester.  We suggest the Bank of Oklahoma and Local Oklahoma Bank because of the services they provide to international students and the low rates they charge for services.

Once you decide on a bank, you must apply in person and take with you several forms of identification including your passport, I-94 card, and your TU ID card, along with a minimum deposit (usually $100).  You must also know your address and phone number in Tulsa when you fill out the application.

There is a Bank of Oklahoma ATM machine on campus in the Allen Chapman Activity Center (ACAC).
