SPRING 2008

What is the Research Colloquium?

In 1998, the first annual Student Research Colloquium was established to provide TU students with an opportunity to gain public speaking experience, learn about research from fields outside of their own academic discipline, and experience judging methods used by professional organizations for national and international meetings/conferences.  Besides the benefit to students in terms of public speaking skills, the Student Research Colloquium is a week to celebrate student research and scholarship, with prizes to recognize outstanding student presentations and research.

Who Participates?

Any TU Undergraduate, Graduate, Law or

Non-degree seeking student (Domestic or International) who is involved in a research project for any discipline may participate.

What sort of research is included?

Presentations may contain original research or scholarship that a student is conducting, work that they have already submitted for a classroom project during the previous fall semester, or work in progress for the spring semester.  Some students also use the Colloquium as an opportunity to present research proposals or scholarship for which they are contemplating an in-depth study.  Research does not have to be experimentally based.  Humanities, business, engineering, legal, physical sciences, and social science topics are all welcome.

A session schedule and information about volunteering to judge or chair a session will be posted in mid-March at http://www.utulsa.edu/research_colloquium

If you have any questions,

please contact the Colloquium Co-Chairs

at research-colloquium@utulsa.edu.

Text Box: NCA (North Central Association) Accreditation Info Session
February 28, 2008
Lorton Hall, RM 206
6 - 8 PM

The University of Tulsa will be undergoing its ten-year re-accreditation visit from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association in March.  To help graduate students better understand the re-accreditation process and how it will affect current and future graduate programs, an info session has been organized for February 28 in Lorton Hall 206 from 6-8 PM. Assessment of current and future graduate programs is a major focus of this year’s accreditation visit and any input from current graduate students would be greatly appreciated.

The Self-Study Steering Committee will be providing pizza and drinks, so please reserve a seat so we may order the proper amount of food. If you plan on attending, please email Hope Geiger at hope-geiger@utulsa.edu by February 26.

To familiarize yourself with accreditation info, a public website has been developed that provides information about many elements of re-accreditation:  http://www.utulsa.edu/accreditation/.  Please visit this website and formulate any questions or concerns to address at the upcoming meeting.
