Get Outside is
a part of The
University of
Tulsa's Office of
Housing and
Dining Services.

Welcome to Get Outside

The University of Tulsa's Outdoor Leadership Program is all about having a great time in the outdoors. The program and its activities are open to all TU students, undergraduate and graduate alike, regardless of experience level. We run trips geared to all experience levels, so whether you are new to the outdoors or a seasoned adventurer, we are sure that you will find trips to suit your needs.

What we do:
The answer to that question is pretty simple...if it's outside, chances are, we'll do it. Meetings may include a guest speaker, a presentation or just details about any upcoming activites, but no matter what else, they will always include food.

Get Outside does more than provide outdoors activities though, we also provide a means for students to get together and venture outside on their own. We encourage our members to plan, organize and follow through with activites that they would like to do on their own, which brings us to...

Trip Leaders:
Our trip leaders are central to our program, because without them, there would be very few trips. Trip leaders are students, just like you, who decide to put together an outdoors activity, run it by the e-board, and then set up a signup list. The trip leader plans the trip and, well, leads it.

We can always use more trip leaders, as more leaders means more trips. Leading trips provides you with great experience and great challenges. Being a trip leader includes some added bonuses as well, such as free trips, free Membership / Explorer Post Card, and access to our group equipment. And speaking of equipment...

Equipment:
Get Outside has limited equipment at this time, but we are in the process of slowly accumulating various types including, tents, stoves, ropes, sleeping bags, packs, harnesses, etc. But don't let that worry you though, because if you don't have your own equipment...we'll find some for you.

Membership Cost:
There is no cost to join other than filling out our Membership Application Form,
Medical Information Form, and a Liability Release Form, In addition to having the opportunity to participate in all outings, planning meetings, and workshops, as a member you will recieve an Explorer Post Card. The explorer post membership card allows you the added benefit of having personal access to any and all of the BSA properties and equipment throughout the US, as well as a 10% discount on purchases made at Sun & Ski Sports and Backwoods store in the Tulsa area.

Trip Costs:
Many of our activites are free, however, some do require a fee. All trip costs vary and include such things as expenses for food, gas, tolls, and equipment rental. Trips which tend to be more technically challenging, require more equipment or are multiday, tend to cost more. The program will often subsidize the cost of many of these trips in order to lower the overall cost to the participants.
