English Institute Application The English Institute for International Students (EIIS) offers intensive courses in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding the English language. Five eight-week courses are offered each year. The primary objective of the institute is to provide international students with a sufficient command of English to function on a level comparable to their American classmates and to provide intensive language training to those who wish to improve their English. All applicants must be secondary school graduates. Admission to the EIIS in no way guarantees admission to The University of Tulsa. You may contact the English Institute at 918-631-2535. |

EIIS is organized into five levels of study: Basic, Intermediate I and II, and Advanced I and II. Entering students are placed in the appropriate level based on the results of a placement test developed specifically for this purpose. Tests are given at the conclusion of each level to assist in measuring language skill progress and proficiency.
Classes meet Monday through Friday each week, and daily classes include instruction in the functional areas of reading, writing, oral skills, grammar, vocabulary, and listening. Computer-assisted instruction is used extensively throughout the curriculum. In addition to regular classes, students have access to an on-campus language laboratory where they can practice listening and pronunciation and work on computerized grammar and vocabulary programs.
Upon completion of EIIS, students who have admission to The University of Tulsa can fulfill the university language proficiency requirement by passing a proficiency test developed for this purpose. University-admitted students in level five may enroll in one university class while studying at EIIS.
EIIS offers eight-week sessions throughout the school year. The dates for each session are as follows:

Students who will bring a spouse and children with them to the U.S. must provide the following information for each person so we may include them on your immigration document:
BANK VERIFICATION OF FINANCIAL RESOURCES
The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service requires that you file a statement with the university that shows adequate financial support for your education. If you are sponsored by a government or agency, such sponsors must provide an official letter with an original signature and a current date clearly indicating that financial support will cover all university costs and personal living expenses. If such sponsorship does not cover all costs, additional evidence of funding for uncovered expenses is required. If your spouse and children will accompany you, the sponsorship letter should also mention coverage for you dependents. If the sponsorship does not include your dependents, then you should provide evidence of sufficient financial means of support by submitting a letter from the sponsor's bank.
Students who are not sponsored by a government or agency must complete The University of Tulsa's Confirmation of Financial Resources form, which follows this application.
