Vivian Mercier coined the
term "the Joyce industry" when he first encountered American
critics' intense fascination with the Irish author and his work. For
the past forty years, the James Joyce Quarterly has been at the
center of this industry, disseminating scholarly work to a large and
diverse audience of readers. This year's conference will celebrate the
40th anniversary of the JJQ by looking back on how this industry
has taken shape, and looking forward to where it might be headed.
