Publication of Materials from the Collections
Permission to examine or copy materials does not convey the right to publish or reproduce the materials in any manner. Publication must be authorized by the Librarian of Special Collections and the copyright holder, and, in some instances, the original owner of the material. Written application must be made specifying the material to be published and the place/manner of publication.
Permission is usually granted by the Librarian of Special Collections if written permission from the copyright holder for the specific use of the materials is obtained and prior publication rights have not already been secured by another person.
The University of Tulsa does not claim exclusive rights to the use of or publication of any materials in its possession, nor will it extends such rights to others. In certain specific cases, the Librarian of Special Collections, in consultation with the Dean of the Library, may grant a limited priority to publish to a person for a reasonable but limited period of time. This priority is granted at the discretion of the Librarian of Special Collections, and does not in any way curtail others from examining the materials in question. However, usually permission to quote or publish these materials will only be given with the consent of the person granted the prior right.
Publication fees are accesses for any material, based on a variety of criteria for both the material and the intended publication. Please see the Fee Schedule for specifics. In some cases, copyright fees may also be charged when the University holds the copyright.
