Scope and Contents note

Detailed, handwritten daily entries reviewing Thorne's activities as Leading Telegraphist on board the H.M.S. Vimiera (19 Sept 1917), the H.M.S. Paladin (25 September 1917), the H.M.S. Vega (25 December 1917), and the H.M.S. Oriole (21 February 1918). Handwriten entries are occasionally interspersed with Naval Signal telegrams containing messages relating to naval activities and manuevers.

The journal abruptly ends following Thorne's being on leave from 20 October-26 October 1918, with a brief entry for 27 October 1918: "More men taken sick" referring to a flu outbreak.
