Scope and Contents note

2 "Ideal Scrapbooks" containing clippings of the war. Hand numbered pagination. Each volume indexed by compiler, which precedes each book's major section. Each volume concludes with key listing newspaper clipping sources. Some clippings laid-in to rear of Book 2. Leaflet of the President's April 2, 1917 War Message is folded and stored in tipped-in envelope in read of Book 1. The majority of clippings are from Chicago, Louisville, or Lexington papers.

 2005.021.1 Scrapbook 1 1917 January - 1917 November 2   29.3 x 23.3 x 5.4 cm Period black half leather with cloth ties, marbled boards and gilt lettering. Press cuttings are layered on each of 100 scrapbook pages. Some clippings have detached from the page. Many clippings are folded up beneath layers of other clippings so great care should be taken when unfolding to read.

Scope and Contents note

Laid in front cover is a Promotion Card for Hal Keller, Christ Church Sunday School, Winnetka, Illinois, Christian Nuture Series; signed by the Rector and Superintendents. 1916-1917.

"Ideal Scrapbook" illustration of suggested methods for putting on clippings and pictures. At right top corner is a contemporary address label of Col. Paul G. Benton, Pebble Beach, CA.

4 ruled sheets of a handwritten index of clippings for Scrapbook 1. Most of the contents pertain to the war; there are occasional clippings of non-war related events from around the US.

Pasted onto the inside back cover is an envelope containing a clipping of "The President's War Message" of 2 April 1917. PLEASE USE photocopy provided as a Reading Copy.

Many clippings are folded up beneath layers of other clippings so great care should be taken when unfolding to read. A few clippings are laid in.
