Biographical/Historical note

The Eberl family lived in Furstenfeldbruck, Bavaria, Germany. Furstenfeldbruck is located between Munich and Augsburg, Germany. Alois Eberl may have been a teacher before the war--he is addressed as "Lehrer" in some of the correspondence written to him. Alois Eberl was killed in the Battle of the Somme 1916 July 14 and was the recipient of the Iron Cross 2nd Class. Gottleib Jr. was held as a prisoner of war in a British POW camp from 1917 February - 1919 August. Their parents were Anna and Gottlieb Eberl, Sr.
