- The collection is largely in good condition. Some of the photographs have creases were they have been bent and some have torn edges or corners. Two of the photos have visibly faded and may need to remain out of the light, but most are clear and defined. The photographs are in stable condition and not in immediate danger of deteriorating, therefore no special handling requirements are needed beyond standard archival practices.

Scope and Contents note
This collection is comprised of twenty photographs ranging in dates from 1866 -1917. Seventeen of the photos were taken during World War I, mostly of U.S. and European soldiers in uniform. The WWI photographs were taken in England, France, and Russia. Two other photos were taken in 1866 and 1867 respectively, one is of a man in civilian clothing, the other is of a man in military uniform. Accompanying the picture of the soldier from 1867 are five military documents/correspondence ranging from 1895-1913.

These photographs are arranged by alphabetically. Portraits have been separated into those that have been identified and those that have not.

Scope and Contents noteThe portrait of Hans Hurler was taken in 1915. The description accompanying photographs states that Hans was a member of "Kaiser's Infantry, probably a Bavarian Regiment.
