- Condition is fair. Paper covering leader binder is crumbling in various place and caution should be taken in handling. Numerous inserts have strong colors that are leaking onto the written diary pages. Page 15 is the worst with the attached flyer on page 14 staining so much that it has become hard to read. Measures should be taken to remove items that could potentially make the diary unreadable. There is some possible mold on page 177.

Biographical/Historical note
Denton Egbert Brome Jr. (23 Sept 1887- was from Rutherford, N. J. He served as a Navy Corpsman during WWI, stationed in France.
Scope and Contents note
World War I dairy written by Denton E. Brome Jr. beginning on approximately September 14, 1917 and ending on August 17, 1918. The diary chronicles Brome's duties as a Navy Corpsman stationed in France. The subject matter includes the daily duties of hospital maintenance, wound clean-up, and patient care, as well as excursions from the hospital to tourist sites, restaurants, and other hospitals. It is 200 pages in length with 20 pages being full diary entries and numerous other pages including tipped in inserts, loose-leaf inserts, and short notes. The notebook is leather bound with a sheet of paper pasted over the entirety of the front and back cover.
