The goal of the University School computer program is to teach the children the computer skills necessary for school work and the future.  The skill set required in today's world includes accurate and fast keyboarding, competency in word processing and spreadsheets, and using the Internet for information gathering in a safe, responsible, and effective manner.

Younger students (EC, EP, and P1) will use mouse-based activities to enhance the phonics and math curriculum by using KidPix, Click and Learn, and other educational websites.

Keyboarding is introduced in the second semester of Primary 2 using Type to Learn III, a self-paced software program.  This software is used through OI-6.  During typing "boot camp" for OI-7 and OI-8, Typing Time software is used.

Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher) is the premier office toos used by secondary schools, colleges, and businesses.  Each student at University School will have a strong knowledge base in these products.  The use of innovative projects that are integrated with other school subjects and current events makes learning these tools easy and fun.

Using the Internet as a research source is invaluable.  The Internet unit covers how to find information and evaluate it.  Cyber safety is a crucial topic that is covered in depth with the Older Intermediate grades.
