Position Summary
The Department of Political Science at The University of Tulsa invites applicants for an anticipated tenure-track Assistant Professor in American politics beginning Fall 2010. We are open to all American research subfields. We are well-represented in the teaching of public law and national security policy. The following are illustrative of American fields that we would like to offer: American political development, Presidency and Congress, public policy in the context of American and international political economy. The favored candidate will be able: (1) to convey the drama of American politics in an era of crisis and change, (2) to provide the relevant conceptual and empirical frameworks for understanding these events, and (3) to make comparisons to events in other countries or to earlier episodes in American history. We seek excellence in teaching, the promise of high scholarship, and a commitment to working with students. The University of Tulsa is a private, comprehensive institution in an urban setting. One in ten students is a National Merit Finalist. Though TU is a national doctoral university, the department is undergraduate only. Classes are small and teaching loads are competitive. The liberal arts and interdisciplinary conversation are faculty strengths. Candidates from under-represented populations are especially encouraged to apply.
