CURATOR FOR LIBRARY AND ARCHIVAL COLLECTIONS - GILCREASE MUSEUM

Position Summary

The Curator of Library and Archival Collections at Gilcrease Museum is responsible for the administrative oversight and strategic planning for all aspects of the library department’s operations, including books, artifacts, manuscripts, maps and other special-collections materials as well as Museum Archives. The position reports directly to the Senior Curator and indirectly to the Executive Director of the Museum.






Characteristic Duties

  • Collaborate with other Museum departments in the development of exhibitions, educational programs and activities and help integrate the Sarah Erwin Library into the overall Museum environment
  • Provide leadership in the areas of library personnel, interns and volunteers, archival and library collection development and acquisition and academic research
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest public and technical services, collection preservation and security and the implementation of new technology as it relates to the collection areas
  • Maintain regular contact with designated Scholars in Residence
  • Oversee the electronic cataloguing of library collections and Museum Archives
  • Periodically write articles for Museum publications
  • Participate in the orientation of staff, faculty, volunteers and students
  • Work directly with the Museum’s development staff on grants and fundraising activities related to the Library and Museum Archives




    Minimum Qualifications

    Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited graduate school; three to five years of professional experience in an academic research library; previous experience in manuscripts, archives and a special collection; management experience in a research-library setting; demonstrated ability to write articles for scholarly publications and books; a background in history or the humanities; demonstrated understanding of research methods; demonstrated knowledge of the acquisition, organization and processing of archives, manuscripts and special-collections; effective leadership; human relations and oral/written communication skills.
