Instructions for Forms

 

With the document templates we have provided on our site, it makes the process of filling out forms much easier than it has previously been.  Once downloaded, you can simply tab through the forms and enter the information on the computer instead of filling out the forms by hand or on a typewriter.  We hope you chose to use these templates, however, if you would still prefer to fill out the forms by hand, they should all be available in our office in Lorton 202.

In order to use the document templates, it is a very simple matter of downloading the template onto your computer, tabbing through and filling out the necessary information, printing it out, and sending it to us via campus mail (we hope to have an email address ready soon in which you can send it as an attachment). 

To download and use the templates, please follow these step-by-step instructions:

For Internet Explorer:

  1. Click on the link to the desired template.  (This should open the template in a new browser window, if it asks for user authentication information, just hit cancel and the template should open in the new window.)
  2. Go to the "File" menu in the template window and select "Save As".  (This should open a window for you to chose where to save it and what to save it as.  If it asks for user authentication information again, hit cancel again.)
  3. Select what to call the file and where to save it and hit "Save".  (This saves it to whatever file you chose.  Often Microsoft Word will open a window - if it does, go to the button for the template window on the taskbar [usually on the bottom of the screen] and right click on your mouse.  Choose "Close" and the template window and the Microsoft Word window should both close.)
  4. Congratulations!  The template is now downloaded and you can fill out the form on your computer.  For instructions on how to do this, go to How to Use the Templates.

For Netscape Navigator:

  1. Click on the link to the desired template.  (This will open a window asking you to either "Open it" or "Save it to disk".)
  2. Chose "Save it to disk".  (This will open a new window asking where you want to save it and what you want to save it as.)
  3. Select what to call the file and where to save it and hit "Save".  (Netscape may have opened an empty browser window during this process.  Just close it by hitting the "X" in the upper right hand corner of the window.)
  4. Congratulations!  The template is now downloaded and you can fill out the form on your computer.  For instructions on how to do this, go to How to Use the Templates.

How to Use the Templates:

  1. Double click on the icon to open the template.
  2. You should be able to type in the required data in the first text box automatically.  Type in the information and hit the "Tab" key to go to the next box and fill in the necessary information.  Continue until you are completed with your document.
  3. After all of your necessary information is entered into the template, go to the "File" menu and select "Save As".  Rename the document and chose where to save it and hit "Save".  (This saves a copy on your computer for your records.)
  4. Go to the "File" menu and select print.  This should bring up another menu with printing options.  Choose your options and hit "Okay".  Now you have a hard copy of the form ready for any signatures that might be needed to complete it.
  5. When the form is completed and has all required signatures, it's ready to be sent to us at Lorton Hall 202!
