TU TORNADO TIPS

Listen for these weather advisory terms:
- Tornado Watch - There is a chance of a tornado forming.
- Tornado Warning - A tornado has been seen or detected by radar.
University buildings have been evaluated to determine the safest areas to occupy during severe weather. These areas have been posted with signs “Storm Shelter Area”. TU’s emergency procedures require upon becoming aware that a warning is in effect:
- persons who are outdoors shall seek shelter and move to the building’s “Storm Shelter Area”
- occupants of each building shall move to the building’s “Storm Shelter Area”.
- faculty are requested to dismiss classes and instruct students to move the building’s “Storm Shelter Area”, unless the class is being held in an interior room, on ground floor, with no windows (and no chemical hazards ).
Following is a list of buildings and the area(s) in which were determined to be the safest to occupy during severe weather. Most lower level interior restrooms have not been posted with signs, but in general they are adequate storm shelter areas - seek protection from glass mirrors.
