The Covenant

Living the Covenant

In affirmation of their covenant relationship, The University of Tulsa and the Synod of the sun recognize their mutual concern to provide for intellectual, moral and spiritual growth. The University strives to create an atmosphere of civility and decency with mutual respect and open communication. This relationship between the University and the Synod encourages the pursuit of religious and academic freedom and promotes among graduates a commitment to serve the community.

A covenant expresses a commitment to a shared vision and to the work that vision requires. We at The University of Tulsa are proud to make our covenant with the Synod of the Sun the basis for a group of exciting and enriching programs, collectively known as the Westminster Society.

Recalling the Westminster Confession, an important and central confession of the Presbyterian Church, the name of our society reflects the important communal aspects of worship, scholarship, fellowship, and service. Additionally, the "minster" in Westminster shares origins with the term "monastery," a place of peace, study, devotion, and mutual support. We dedicate ourselves to cultivating these values and this kind of atmosphere throughout the TU campus and the Tulsa community.
