Medications and Treatments
OTC (over-the-counter) medications may be dispensed by clinic nurses. All other prescription medications must be ordered by the attending clinic physician physician or physician assistant.

Laboratory Services
The Alexander Student Health Center can perform various laboratory tests and they can be billed to the student's account. X-Ray services are referred off- campus to a private x-ray facility and the student will be responsible for any charge.

Immunizations
Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B series, tetanus, tetanus-diphtheria, tuberculin skin tests, fluzone, meningitis and HPV immunizations are available.

Due to recent Oklahoma State legislation, beginning with the 2004 Fall academic year, all students who attend Oklahoma colleges and universities must provide proof of immunization for certain diseases. Medical, religious, and personal exemptions are allowed by law and such requests must be made in writing using The University of Tulsa Certificate of Exemption form.

Fees for immunizations available at the Alexander Health Center are:

Hepatitis A (series of 2 injections) $30.00/each
Hepatitis B (series of 3 injections) $35.00/each
Combination Hepatitis A/B (series of 3 injections) $60.00/each
Tetanus/Diptheria $25.00
Tuberculosis Screening Test (Annually) $6.00
Fluzone (Annually, in the Fall)
Meningitis $105.00
HPV-(Series of 3) $140.00/each

Allergy Shots
Students who are being followed by an allergist may get their injections at the clinic on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. or Tuesdays from 9:00 am - 11:30 a.m, during the regular academic year, hours will vary during summer Tuesdays from 9:00 am - 11:30 a.m, during the regular academic year. Hours will vary during summer sessions. Students need to provide written instructions from their allergist regarding their injections and are required to wait 20 minutes after their shot.

Appointments
Appointments are required for physician visits. Please call 631-2241 to schedule an appointment or you can use Docvia a secure website, to schedule an appointment, ask a nurse a question or request refills of your birth control pills.

Class Excuses
It is University policy that the Health Center does not write class excuses. In the event of illness or injury it is advised the student contact his or her professor as soon as possible.

Fees
There is a no charge to see the physician, physician assistant, or registered nurse. During the summer clinic hours, there is a $20.00 charge to see a physician. There is a charge for lab work and medications dispensed at the health center. These fees can be put on your University account or you may pay by cash or check. No credit card payment is available at ASHC.

Free Confidential HIV Testing
Confidential HIV testing is performed by Oklahoma State trained HIV counselors. Students are strongly encouraged to call or stop by to schedule an appointment.

Health Education
Health education programs are available throughout the school year. The Peer Education Program (PEP) sponsors a variety of events throughout the academic calendar.

Referrals
Referrals are made to community resources (including the hospital, physician specialists, and other health care agencies) when necessary. If a student is referred off campus all charges for that visit are the responsibility of the student

Sick Visits
The clinic sees patients for acute illnesses, including:

  • respiratory infections
  • sore throats
  • headaches
  • abdominal pain
  • urinary tract infections
  • orthopedic injuries
  • sexually transmitted infections
  • eye infections, etc.

Testing including dipstick urines, strep screens, pregnancy tests, wet preps, hemocults, peak flow testing and EKG's are available at the clinic. If additional lab work is needed, blood can be drawn at the clinic and will be sent to a reference lab. There is a fee for these lab tests. X-rays can be done at a nearby facility off-campus, students will be responsible for any charges.

STI Testing
Testing for males and females is done at the clinic. Blood work screening may include HIV and RPR (syphilis). Urinalysis or swabs may be used to screen for chlamydia or gonorrhea. Treatment will be given for positive results.

Student Health Insurance
The University offers a student health insurance policy to all full-time students who desire coverage. International students are *required* to be covered under a health insurance plan.

Deposits are required for crutches, wheelchairs, hot water bottles, etc., which will be credited to your account when items are returned.

Confidentiality and Privacy
In accordance with FERPA and HIPAA regulations AHC cannot release specific information about a student to anyone, including family members, without the student's written permission. We suggest that parents and students work together to establish an effective means of communication.
