For Seniors

What do you need to know going into your senior year?

Relax and enjoy it. Take time to go to games, spend time with friends, and take road trips. You've worked hard to get to this point, so step back and take it all in.

Checklist

  • Know all of your options and get your post-grad plans under control. In general, you have three options: go to work, go to grad school, or take a year off to do something community-oriented, like the Peace Corps. There are deadlines associated with each of these paths, so get informed!
  • Talk to the TU Career Services Office!  They'll help you develop your resume and start your job search right here on campus.  Major employers visit TU throughout the year, so you can work the interviews around your schedule.
  • Prepare for and take graduate exams. The main ones are the GRE (general graduate), GMAT (business grad), MCAT (med school), and LSAT (law). Find out which one your graduate program requires.
  • Figure out where you're going to live after graduation and how to get all of your stuff there. You wouldn't believe the things people throw away as they frantically try to pack up post-graduation. With a little pre-planning, you could make a few extra bucks by selling the stuff you can't squeeze into your car.
  • Do your graduation checks with your advisor early to make sure you’re on track for graduation.
  • Don't overload yourself with extracurriculars. It goes fast, so focus on what you really enjoy this year.
  • Take mental health days: no class, no homework, no meetings. Just relax.
  • If you've got room in your course schedule, take a fun class that you've always been interested in but didn't fit into your major program.
  • Loan repayment – get informed about your loans and what you need to do post graduation. Some loans have six-month grace periods where you don't have to make payments while looking for a job. Others require you to pay up immediately upon graduation, with penalties for late payments.
  • Your college years are the perfect time to travel. Take vacations and road trips this year. Once you get a job it won't be easy to skip out of town anymore.
  • Did we mention enjoy it? Have fun! You deserve it.
